Welcome to ESL

Dear Parents:
My name is Ms. McDonnell and I will be working with the ESL students this year at Prairie Wind.  I am very excited about the work we will be doing this year.  The students will be working hard to improve their English language skills, to include speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension.  To achieve our goals we will practice exercises in vocabulary building, reading, creative writing, following directions, and more.  It will be a lot of work.  We will be sure to include fun learning games as well.
The students will be expected to work not only in my class, but also at home on ESL assignments.  The students should come home with their homework folder each night.  On the back of this folder will be a paper listing the assignments for that day.  He/She will usually have two nights to complete the assignments before they are due, but should study every  night to master each lesson.  Please be sure homework returns to school each day even if it is not due yet, because he/she may be able to study the assignments during extra work time in the regular classroom.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Prairie Wind Elementary (491-0859).
I am pleased to be working with your child this year!
