Welcome to First Grade!
Welcome to first grade! My name is Mrs. O'Connor and I will be your child's teacher. This will be my 23rd year teaching first grade. I graduated from UNO and later received a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. My daughter's name is Elise and my son's name is Cole.
This is going to be one of the most incredible years your child will have in his\her school career. There are many exciting challenges ahead for you and your child in first grade. You will see personal growth as well as academic growth in the months to come. It is my goal that every student in my classroom have a successful year.
Many times both parents and children are apprehensive about what will happen in first grade. It is important to keep in mind that children acquire skills at different rates. Celebrate your child's accomplishments daily in order to keep them motivated and eager to learn. Reading with your child daily builds confidence and shows the importance of reading.
I am happy that I will be your child's teacher. It is very important that we work together as a team in the education of your child. If situations arise or academic concerns appear, I will notify you immediately so we can discuss and address the problem. Feel free to contact me before or after school at 402-491-0859, send a note with your child, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
