Band Announcements

Excitement is building for the band's performance on the Prairie Wind Winter Program on December 15th- please note that the band will perform at the 9:30 am program only!  Students will be receiving their program line-up sheet this next week. This sheet outlines the music that will be performed on the Winter Program. The goal with this music is to practice it at home in order to perfect every aspect (correct notes, correct rhythm ,superior tone quality). Don't be surprised if you hear these songs over and over while your child is practicing at home this time of year!

To help students practice at home, backing tracks are available. Please click below to download the backing tracks:

RECORDINGS COMING SOON- PLEASE CHECK BACK NEXT WEEK!

In addition to the Winter Program music, students are working on mastering their 6th note on page 11 in their Sound Innovations book. Band students are also practicing their note naming skills through timed "races." Please ask your child how they did on their note name race.

Practice is an essential component to building any skill. Learning to play a band instrument is no exception. Beginning band students should be practicing about 10-15 minutes a day (total of about 60-80 minutes per week). Students should keep track of their practice time on the band calendar. The practice time that is written on the calendar will also help students earn extra merit points in the Prairie Wind "Principal's Own" Band Achievement Program.

Are you confused about what day your child should bring their instrument to school for band lessons? Trust me- you are not the only one! To help students and parents remember to bring their instruments on the correct days I will be using the Remind app this year. Please see the letter in the PRAIRIE WIND BAND DOCUMENTS section at the bottom of this page for instructions on how to sign up for this email/text message reminder service. Signing up is completely voluntary but may be a great way to help you and your child plan more efficiently for band lesson days.

Feel free to contact me at any time with any questions you have about band lessons.
