Fourth Grade Academic Vocabulary

4th Grade Academic Vocabulary

Omaha Public School teachers and administrators recognize the importance of academic vocabulary and after reviewing the research regarding vocabulary development have identified words in the academic content areas of language arts, mathematics, and science. Students will be taught and will be expected to master their grade level words. Research by Dr. Robert Marzano, author of Building Background Academic Knowledge for Academic Achievement, states, “If a district was to systematically ensure that all students were exposed to specific academic terms and phrases across the grade levels, this would form a strong common foundation for all students.”
